After a lot of speculation, the Atalanta Falcons named Raheem Morris as their head coach for the next season. There were ample discussions on whether the team would be hiring the NFL veteran Bill Belichick, but the team snubbed the Patriots legend and moved on to Raheem Morris, who used to be a colleague of the 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

After the appointment, Shanahan congratulated the head coach and said that Morris deserved it for long. He went on to say that Morris is one of the finest coaches he has ever been with.

Oh, it's way past due. Raheem’s one of the best coaches I’ve been with. I got to work with him earlier in my career in Tampa. When I was young I was trying to get my dad to hire him as a D-Coordinator. He ended up becoming a head coach so fast. Then I got a chance to work with him in Washington. Then Atlanta, he actually was on defense. He got to come work with me on offense for a year.

The appointment of Morris led to the uncertainties of the future of Bill Belichick. The talks were going, and it was almost at the final stage when the veteran HC was rejected by the Falcons’ management.

Last season, a lot of teams went through massive coaching changes. The Falcons are one of them. After providing three unsuccessful seasons, the Falcons owner had enough and sacked the head coach Arthur Smith. The decision followed a lot of discussions on who will be the coach of the Falcons.

Shanahan wanted to bring Raheem Morris to 49ers

The 49ers coach revealed that he wanted to bring Morris to his team, but he failed always. He did not hide his regrets about not working with his past companion.

The fact that he was on defense his whole career and can came to be our receiver coach, it was unbelievable how cool he was. How good he did. Always tried to get him here every single year. But Raheem’s been one of the best. He's going to hell of an organization, a good situation with good people. I’m really happy for Atlanta that they got him and more than happy for Raheem.

However, currently Shanahan has a mammoth task on his hands. On Sunday Night, his team San Francisco 49ers will be facing the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship. Last year, they failed to win it. This time, they will strive to make it to the game of Lombardi trophy.
