Shanahan did not take stance between Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey in the MVP race.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan remains completely neutral on MVP race between Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey

The San Francisco 49ers are having their best time on the field. They have won 10 out of their 13 games and are presently seeking the No.1 conference seed for the NFC Championship game. Both Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey have done pioneering jobs this season and ensured good form for their team.

Since the beginning of the season, both Purdy and McCaffrey’s names are hitting the MVP debate. As per sources, Purdy is the second favorite to win the MVP award while the running back McCaffrey ranks ninth. Coach Kyle Shanahan presently has two players in the MVP race.

However, the coach has not taken any stance in choosing one between the two. He has remained neutral in the debate and has refrained from taking any stance.

Shanahan said while speaking to the media:

That's only reason I wouldn't overly comment on either one of them because I don't want them to cancel each other out. But if any non-quarterback is going to get an MVP, I don't get how Christian McCaffrey can't. I mean, he's amazing in what he's done all year.

With this, it can be guessed that Shanahan has vouched for McCaffrey. But it is not the reality. He also vouched for Purdy if the authority decided to give it to any quarterback.

He further added:

If it's going to a quarterback, then I don't have to talk about Christian. I can talk about our quarterback. And if his numbers is all you see, then I think that solves it up. But if you watch the film, then it makes it even stronger, which to me is the most important thing.

Kyle Shanahan couldn’t believe Brock Purdy’s passing abilities

Earlier, Shanahan did not refrain from praising Purdy. He earlier said that Purdy finds the best angles to provide passes to his colleagues. The incident happened after Purdy threw an almost impossible pass to Brandon Aiyuk on Thanksgiving night. Shanahan was in shock to see Purdy connecting with Aiyuk in a field covered by so many players.

Shanahan said:

I couldn’t believe he was throwing it. The zone coverage guys were so deep, which usually you can check it down right underneath them and get about 12, but Brock thought he could drop it in over the guy, and it was a clear view for all of us and a hell of a throw, perfect touch, got it over him, and that was the big play that sealed it.

Nonetheless, both Purdy and McCaffrey are eyeing for the SB title instead of the MVP Award.
