Josh Allen has had a string of setbacks in recent months. After the painful loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on home turf, the quarterback ended up losing his best asset, wide receiver Stefon Diggs. To make matters worse, the Bills failed to land any key offensive weapons in the first half of free agency. Things appeared grim for him.
Allen‘s last hope was to rely on the Buffalo Bills doing well in the NFL Draft and it is safe to say that the team did not disappoint him. In the second round, the team drafted Keon Coleman, the wide receiver from FSU.
General manager Brandon Beane revealed in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio that Allen has been kept in the loop about the entire draft process.
Josh is crazy about the draft process. He loves it. If I get a call from Josh in the offseason, it's usually him seeing somebody on a highlight, running into somebody, throwing with somebody- just something to ask me what I think about this guy. He called me at the Senior Bowl (to ask) what do I think about a couple of guys there. So he loves it.Brandon Beane said
Allen had texted him, “You’re the guy that I want,” on last Friday, and unsurprisingly, the Bills had a shot to bring him onboard with the 33rd overall pick and they took it.
Josh Allen wanted the Bills to bring Keon Coleman aboard
It is rare to see a quarterback get this involved in the draft process. Often, the case is the playmakers tend to have little to no say in the entire draft process. They leave it to the team and then make it clear that they are willing to work with whatever is given to them. However, that is not the case with Allen.

Beane revealed that Josh Allen sat with the coaches and watched the film on potential draft candidates with them to gauge their talent. When the GM revealed to Allen that his decision would be to draft Keon Coleman, the quarterback “was pretty pumped.”
He’s been in the building the last couple of weeks now that the offseason program’s started. So we did give him some guys, we said, ‘Hey, sit back with the coaches, y’all watch them together and talk about how you’d use them. I’d like to hear what you see.’ And he liked a lot of the guys, he really did. But Keon was one — I know he liked him a lot, too. And Josh and I didn’t speak Thursday, really. Maybe he stopped by that morning. But that next day, Friday morning, he FaceTimed me — actually I was still at home before I headed in here. And he was like, ‘What are you thinking?’ And I said, ‘Well, barring somebody blowing me away, I’m going to take Keon.’ And he was pretty pumped.Brandon Beane said
In many ways, Coleman fits within the culture of the Bills. He is a laid-back personality, one who instantly made thousands of fans after his first interview since joining Buffalo.
For Allen, he will be a much-needed weapon on offense. Despite having Stefon Diggs, who put up 1,000-yard seasons during his time in Buffalo, things never clicked between the QB-WR duo in the playoffs. It seemed as though this connection between them held good only during the regular season. The Bills made the decision to trade Diggs to the Texans in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2025 Draft.
