“None of my friends ever said, ‘Put Eminem on.’”
Boosie Badazz claims that Hip-Hop fans “from the trenches” don’t listen to Eminem and that he’s never heard the rap legend’s music be requested by anyone in his community.
In a clip from Boosie’s interview with Cam Capone News that surfaced on Tuesday (Feb. 20), the Baton Rouge, La. native responded to being asked of his thoughts regarding Dr. Umar Johnson’s declaration that Eminem could not be deemed the greatest rapper of all-time due to being white.
Seemingly agreeing with Umar’s stance, the outspoken hitmaker admitted that the Detroit native’s skills are undeniable, but that his content fails to connect with people from predominantly Black communities.
“Where I’m from, we don’t listen to Eminem. I’m from the trenches,” Boosie says in the interview. “I never heard nobody come in my projects playing Eminem. I’ma keep it real. When I hear him, I say, ‘He can rap.’ I always say that… But where I’m from, I never heard Eminem not one time in the speakers in my projects. I gotta be honest. None of my friends ever said, ‘Put Eminem on.’”
In December 2023, Dr. Umar Johnson made an appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast, during which he argued that Eminem could not be the greatest in anything created by Black people due to lacking African ancestry.
“No non-African person can be the best anything in African culture. You can’t be the best cook of African food,” the social commentator said. “You can’t be the best rapper of African Hip-Hop, you can’t be the best singer… nothing that we create, can [white people] be the best at, that’s the first thing.”
Umar continued, adding, “There’s two billion Africans. Not only are you saying they do it better than two billion Africans, you’re saying that they can do it better than all of the Africans that ever walked the earth. You know and I know that is absolutely ridiculous. From a cultural integrity perspective, this is not about Mr. Marshall Mathers.”
