“Caitlin Clark Has That the Worst Right Now”: Cameron Brink Sympathizes With Fever Rookie as Sheds Light on WNBA’s Harsh Reality

The debate over the rookies vs. the vets is still on. Such has been the effect of last week’s incident when Caitlin Clark was shoved to the floor by Chennedy Carter. Since then, it triggered a domino effect, with fans debating and sports analysts getting back at each other on live TV. Now, amidst the snowballing narratives and parallels, familiar to women’s sports, Cameron Brink has broken her silence and shared the real perspective.
In a recent interview with Dime Magazine, LA Sparks rookie, Cameron Brink shares insights on the most tired narrative around women’s sports. Stressing upon the old-fashioned tug she said, “The most tired narrative is that the vets are against the rookies — this old-school versus new-school narrative — and the narrative that the rookies need to be perfect.” Brink says so, describing how the two sets of people are bid against each other, an example being, the opinion that the WNBA players have been in battle with the rookie, Caitlin Clark after often being subjected to physicality.
Empathizing with Clark’s situation herein, Brink said, “I feel like Caitlin Clark has that the worst right now, but even I get that. She had three points the other night [against New York on June 2]. I had three points the other night [against Indiana on May 28]. We’re expected to be perfect.”
She further expanded on the pressure of being new and being under the spotlight, describing the exhaustion while still discovering themselves. “It’s a learning process. But people expect us to be perfect, and it’s freaking exhausting. I feel like we learn how to tune it out, but still, it’s unrealistic, and it kind of just shows that people don’t know basketball.”

It is no secret that things have gone into a whirlwind for the No.1 draft pick, Caitlin Clark due to her prominence in the league. While facing a few tumbles in her performance, she has also witnessed the physicality of the game. Nonetheless, the 22-year-old has remained steadfast in maintaining her composure and leading the team in points average.
As they continue to battle and outdo, Brink found some excitement beyond WNBA of late.
Cameron Brink treads well on pressure for massive feat
Reportedly, Cameron Brink has been chosen alongside Rhyne Howard, Cierra Burdick, and Hailey Van Lith to represent the United States in 3×3 basketball at the Summer Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Paris this year.
Brink broke into tears as she was presented with the jersey for the biggest stage ahead. She expressed her enthusiasm and said, “I’m so grateful to be selected and it’s an honor to represent the United States at the Paris Olympics this year. The 3×3 training camp experience helped me with my transition into the league, and now I can’t wait to start preparing for the games with Cierra, Rhyne, and Hailey.”
The team of four attended the training camp in April this year, played a few 3X3, including the FIBA Springfield stop and ultimately found their way to the awaited roster. All four on the team have earned their glory on International stages with Cameron Brink, Burdick, and Van Lith having bagged the gold together at 2023 FIBA World Cup. The 22-year-old, thus, seems to be treading rather well on the expectations.
