The Texans could possibly win their 7th AFC South title if the Jacksonville Jaguars lose to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

“Cook that fraud” – Colin Cowherd calling CJ Stroud ‘not talented enough’ goes viral after the rookie led Texans to their first playoffs in 4 years

Colin Cowherd has had his fair share of hot takes. Some came true, even though most football fans will say that most of his opinions or predictions tend to fall through. And they are pointing at the same scenario while making a case for CJ Stroud.

Cowherd has a great knack for stirring the pot by passing out preconceived judgments on players. It was more or less the same when the Houston Texans announced that their second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Stroud, would take over as the starting quarterback in place of Davis Mills.

His assumption was based on the turbulent conditions behind the scenes in the organizations. The Texans had only won 11 games since their 2019 playoff birth.

During that period, they underwent two head coaching changes and appointed a rookie, DeMeco Ryans. This was enough for him to blame the Houston franchise for not repeating their recent failures.

However, fast forward to January 2024, and under Ryan’s guidance, the Texans are back in the playoffs after beating division rivals the Indianapolis Colts 23-19 at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday night. Stroud threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns.

After the game finished, Texans Wire contributor Jordan Pun reshared Colin Cowherd’s old video in which he basically said Stroud is not good enough for the NFL.

Football fans blast Colin Cowherd for writing off CJ Stroud even before the season began

Here’s what Cowherd said back then:

Rookie defensive head coach. Rookie offensive coordinator. Weird owner. Below-average roster. He [CJ Stroud] is not talented enough to overcome that.

The 22-year-old finished the regular season with 4108 yards [the third most by a rookie quarterback], 23 touchdowns, and only 5 interceptions [the second least] in 15 games. No wonder a section of the football fandom is angry with Colin Cowherd.

Fans are correct from their standpoint, but they are missing one big piece of information. Cowherd had already apologized for his hastened assassination of the Ohio State graduate.

The veteran FOX analyst from a stern critique of Stroud became a believer in the Texans QB after he dropped 470 yards and 5 touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccanneers in Week 9.

Stroud is the anti-Mac Jones; he is the anti-Zach Wilson. The big winner is not just the Houston Texans or C.J. Stroud. Another big winner is the NFL. We have another great quarterback.

Cowherd said on FS1’s The Herd after the Tampa game

It’s not social media’s fault that they don’t remember this bit. But it will be interesting to see what Cowherd says about the Texans reaching their first playoffs since 2019 and possibly winning their 7th AFC South title if the Jacksonville Jaguars lose to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
