Micah Parsons is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, but he also thinks that he can be a really good kick returner. His claim was backed up by Dallas Cowboys’ special teams coordinator John Fassel.

During a recent appearance on the Ross Tucker Football podcast, Fassel revealed that Parsons had asked permission to return kickoffs in Dallas. The 24-year-old is a world-class athlete, which showed a glimpse during the NBA celebrity All-Stars game earlier this year.

However, Fassel told Parsons that he could not make the judgment. Instead, he should try asking higher-ups in the team. Then again, he will be denied because there’s always a risk of sustaining an injury, and losing him will be a massive minus for the Cowboys.

He [Micah Parsons] has lobbied me in the past to just be the primary kickoff returner. I’m like, ‘Micah, that’s a question; you’ve got to go a little further up than me on that one.

John Fassel said

When asked whether he would want Parsons to assume an extra role in the team, Fassel, didnt need to think much.

Absolutely, because he would be fantastic. He would catch it, run wild, and he’d probably get incredible yards.

Why does John Fassel believe Micah Parsons can be a great returner?

To deduce why Micah Parsons can be a great returner, Fassel went back to the All-Pro athlete’s Penn State days. Back in 2018, while still part of the Los Angeles Rams setup, Fassel went to scout Nick Scott and found something interesting. He saw Parsons practicing kickoff coverage.

I was like, ‘Who is that guy on kickoff?’ when he was a freshman. I don’t know who he is, but he’ll probably be all right some day.

Fassel revealed

It’s going to be hard for Parsons to receive permission from Mike McCarthy and the coaching department to be a part-time returner. However, according to Fassel, there is a world in which the three-time Pro Bowler may be allowed to step in.

In the game, we’re down by six, [and] there’s eight seconds left in the game, and we got to score a touchdown and kickoff return to win it?’ Maybe we put Micah [Parsons] back there as a second returner.

Fassel added

The Dallas Cowboys selected Micah Parsons in the first round of the 2021 draft. Since then, he has played half a century of games, registering 213 tackles, 40.5 sacks, forcing seven fumbles, and deflecting eight passes.
