Both the Chiefs and 49ers were called for a total of six penalties in the Super Bowl game.
The Super Bowl ended with the Kansas City Chiefs becoming one of the only two wins in NFL history to win back-to-back Vince Lombardi Trophy. In an exciting matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, the Chiefs won the game against all odds at 25-22 in overtime.
However, since the game, there have been quite a handful of theories that contradict the defending Super Bowl champions’ credibility towards the grand victory. Joining the queue is the NFL star defensive player, Micah Parsons, who doesn’t seem quite pleased watching the big game on February 11.
The Dallas Cowboys edge rusher went to his social media to express his displeasure with the Super Bowl LVIII, particularly the officiating, with a bold statement alleging the NFL of “ruining defense.”
Parsons wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account:
I been talking about holdings all year !! Now everyone cares because it’s superbowl ! Like come on the NFL knows they are ruining defense!Micah Parsons on X
The Cowboys’ star player didn’t specify the particular instance from Sunday’s game that reflected a misstep on the part of NFL officiating, which prompted him of such firm condemnation against the officiating. Both the Chiefs and 49ers were called for a total of six penalties in the game, and there weren’t any glaring blunders by the officials.
How the 49ers gave away their advantage in overtime in the Super Bowl
The biggest obtrusive incident in the Super Bowl game has been the 49ers’ outrageous mistake of not being familiar with the new overtime rule and then choosing to receive first in the overtime. These two mistakes took away the major advantage of winning the coin toss and being in the halftime lead.
The overtime rules have been recently revised after the dramatic playoff game of the 2021-22 NFL season. The Niners were totally unaware of this, that’s why despite the official asking Fred Warner again to make sure he knew what he was doing by taking the ball first, the 49ers’ linebacker went ahead with the decision– on the command of head coach Kyle Shanahan.

As expected, the Niners lost the fall after the very first play of the overtime. And then too, they had to settle for a field goal while the Chiefs didn’t waste a second in taking advantage of the situation and took the possession of the ball, turning it into a touchdown.
