Prescott claimed he is focused more about the 2024 season and then see where the negotiations take him.

Dak Prescott admits not having any fear about his NFL future even if he has to leave the Cowboys

Dak Prescott‘s time with the Dallas Cowboys is running thin. Yet the 30-year-old doesn’t fear for his future with the franchise.

Prescott is in the final year of his Cowboys contract, which he signed in 2021. He has been a very astute quarterback for the Cowboys over the years. However, owner Jerry Jones hasn’t shown much interest in extending his stay in Arlington. Instead, he is quite content to let Prescott play out his contract.

Jones promised that they would be going ‘all-in’ for players right before free agency began to help their QB. However, the Cowboys have an NFL low of $13.7 million, which is $10 million less than the second-lowest by the New Orleans Saints per Over The Cap.

Prescott is projected to earn at least $60 million if there’s a renewal, which for the moment doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon. Moreover, the Cowboys will take a $40 million dead-cap hit if they allow Prescott to hit free agency.

Despite all the chatter, the three-time Pro Bowler isn’t fearful about his future with the franchise.

I don't have any fears... I am not gonna say [whether] I fear being here or not.

Dak Prescott said while attending Children’s Cancer Fund’s “A Knight to Remember” Gala Friday night.

There are also rumors of the Cowboys being a ‘sleeper team‘ to draft a quarterback in 2024. Now there’s no guarantee the rookie will take over, but the news itself should have the alarm bells ringing. However, Prescott is only focused on giving his best for Dallas.

I love this game, and I love to play to better myself as a player with my teammates around me. That's with the Dallas Cowboys; it's where I want to be. After this season, we will see where we are.

Dak Prescott isn’t trying to be the highest-paid player in the NFL

The Cowboys are in a bind. Besides Prescott, they will also have to negotiate new deals with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and edge rusher Micah Parsons. Both players have backed out of taking part in voluntary practice sessions.

As things stand, the quarterback market always resets after one of the franchises decides to make their player the best-paid in the league. Jalen Hurts, with five years and $255 million, Lamar Jackson, with five years and $260 million, Justin Herbert, with five years and $262.5 million, and Joe Burrow, with five years and $275 million, make up the highest-paid QBs in the NFL.

Despite all the mouthwatering cash thrown around, Prescott’s focus isn’t ‘necessarily’ on becoming the league’s highest-paid player.

I'm not trying to be the highest-paid, necessarily. I'll wait until negotiations begin.

Prescott said in the same event

He only wants the best for the team. For that, he is always ready to give 100%.

I obviously want to put this team in the best situation. That's always been how I've been. Anytime you've asked me, it's always been about right now.

Prescott added

He was in a similar situation before his last deal. The Cowboys tagged him for one year during the 2020 season. They were even ready to tag him once more, but eventually opted to give him a long-term deal.
