Dak Prescott, who was among the favorites to win the NFL MVP, still hasn’t received the extension for which he has been waiting for about two years now. With teams across the league offering huge extensions to their starting quarterbacks, the Dallas Cowboys have remained silent in that arena.

However, if there’s one that the quarterback truly knows is the reward of being patient, that’s why he isn’t wooed by the lucrative extension quarterbacks of his caliber are getting; instead, he claims money is the last thing on his mind when it comes to playing football.

I don't play for money. Never have never cared for it, to be honest with you, yeah. Would give it up just to play this game. So, I allow that to the business people to say what it's worth, what they're supposed to give a quarterback of my play, a person of my play, a leader of my play. For me, it's about, as I said, control what I can control and handle that part and the rest will take care of itself.

Dak Prescott said after the Cowboys’ OTAs on Wednesday

The star quarterback is stepping into the final year of his contract with the Cowboys and is set to earn $55.4 million against the salary cap. While the contract talks about hanging by a cliff, he has no trade or tag clause in his contract.

If it proceeded this way and Prescott did enter free agency, he would make $40.460 million in dead money against the Cowboys’ salary cap in 2025. For now, the quarterback’s focus is on being the best for his team, as that’s what he can control at the moment.

Dak Prescott hands over contract negotiations to agent

The way the Cowboys were performing last season, Prescott was expected to earn a huge deal, to which even franchise owner Jerry Jones also agreed. However, one poor game and the Cowboys got eliminated from the playoff, whose after-effects reflect Jones’ lost faith in Prescott.

When asked about the contract situation of the quarterback, Jones asserted that the team expects more out of them. Though both Prescott and the Cowboys have expressed their willingness to work together, they have yet to engage in proper extension discussions.

Meanwhile, Prescott has left the contract entirely to his agent, Todd France, and the Cowboys, believing his business will take care of itself. But he is also preparing himself to embrace the opportunities in free agency if things with the Cowboys don’t work out until March 2025.
