Derrick Henry argued that the running backs also deserve the same recoginition and compensation just like the other positions.
Despite being a powerhouse among the running backs, Derrick Henry doesn’t want his future son to become a running back. Entering his eighth season in the NFL, the soon-to-be Baltimore Ravens opened up about the challenges faced by those playing in his position.
In his recent appearance on “The Pivot Podcast,” Henry talked about the underappreciation and inadequate acknowledgment as well as respect that the running backs receive in the NFL, both on and off the field. Given, the significant contraction in the market, the former Tennessee Titans star isn’t wrong in counting the challenges.
Running back Henry said:
If I ever have a son, my son ain’t playing running back though. We want to take a stance for the guys who’s already coming up and already in rotation to make it to the league and be able to set something up for them. So when they come into league and have an opportunity to get paid, they can get paid. But as far as my own son, he can’t play running back.Derrick Henry said
One of the key points that Henry highlighted is generational running back talents weren’t getting the same level of recognition as the elite players. He argued that they also deserve the honor and compensation of the other positions.
For a player like Henry, he isn’t just talking about his career path but also creating a better space and opportunities for the upcoming talents. Just like how he was inspired by legendary RBs to play at this position, as he recalled.
John Harbaugh hails Derrick Henry as a game-changer for Ravens’ rushing strategy
By signing the powerhouse running back, the Ravens have solidified their offense line and created the most deadly rushing pair of him with quarterback Lamar Jackson. While talking about him, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh referred to Henry’s addition to the team as a very dynamic offensive weapon.
He said at the annual league meeting, held in Orlando:
Derrick Henry can attack every single one of those areas just as well.John Harbaugh said

The head coach also said the whole team is thrilled to have such a brilliant running back as Henry, after years of opposing him. Given, the two-time All-Pro has a 3-3 record against the Ravens across the six times he faced them.
