In his recent interview, Dr. Dre doubled down on Eminem being the best rapper ever.
Of course, haters gonna hate, but Dre shut it down – skin colour doesn’t mean skill. Talking with James Corden on SiriusXM’s The Life of Mine show, Dre plainly states what he thinks about Marshall’s place in the culture:
I think he’s the best emcee ever. Point blank, period. Of course, there are going to be arguments about that because he’s a white guy. I don’t think anyone that’s rapping can touch Eminem on that microphone.
And Dre knew it from their first studio session, which also happened the day they first met. The iconic creative duo was born, and Slim Shady’s signature “My Name Is” came to life:
I met Eminem at Jimmy Iovine’s office. We slapped hands, went to the studio and started recording, and I’m not sure if anybody knows this, but I think the first four albums was just me and him and his writing and his delivery and his imagination is off the charts, and I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. I was playing with the MPC and I hit play on it, and he just went, “Hi, my name is”. It happened that fast. No bullshit, and then we went from there, and that was the beginning of this relationship.
However, the West Coast legend doesn’t live only in memories nowadays. Dre confirms that he is still working on a project with Snoop Dogg, which has been a hot topic of conversation for some time now.
These two have created such G-Funk anthems as “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” and “Still D.R.E.” With their new project, “Missionary,” they’re ready to prove that after all these years, the magic’s still there.
Dre only produced one Snoop album back in the day (the iconic “Doggystyle”), so anticipation is just as high as a bar they set back then. Snoop’s soundin’ sharper than ever, and Dre says we ain’t ready for the heat they’re about to bring:
I know, as odd as it sounds, I’ve only produced one album on Snoop, which was in 1993, Doggystyle”. I mean, we’ve done some songs, and we’ve played around in between, of course, but that is the one and only album I’ve produced on Snoop, “Doggystyle”, so we decided to call this one Missionary. Snoop is really sounding fantastic, and people are gonna be really shocked and amazed at how we’ve been able to come back together after all these years and do something. It’s really interesting.
