When the Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs earlier in the offseason, it appeared they didn’t have a game plan for the upcoming season. Even though the star wide receiver’s departure does dig a deep hole in the team’s offense, the Bills have been trying everything to bring in potential players.

On Friday, the Bills added two new names to the receiving squad as they drafted Koen Coleman followed by the big surprise signing of Chase Claypool. As much Coleman’s draft was appreciated, the Bills have been receiving quite the heat from fans after signing Claypool.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted the receiver in 2020 in the second round, he appeared to be a promising player. Before moving to the Chicago Bears, he started 37 out of 39 games at Pittsburgh and recorded 153 receptions for 2,044 yards and 12 scores.

Unlike Pittsburgh, Claypool’s journey with the Bears didn’t go as smoothly, as he struggled to step on the field and even when he did as in the 10 games, the Bears didn’t win any. He recorded only 18 catches and 191 yards in those 10 games before being traded to the Miami Dolphins.

In Miami, Claypool was placed on the special teams and could only play nine games, in which he barely posted 26 yards. Despite his inconsistent stats, the Bills have signed him as a weapon for the team, in a one-year deal.

Fans react to Bills signing Chase Claypool

After the departure of star players such as Diggs and Gabe Davis, when the Bills brought Claypool, fans didn’t like it even a single bit. Although the Bills have a good number of weapons, with the addition of Claypool, fans anticipate their collapse in the upcoming season.

One fan wrote, “It’s over for the Bills now,” while another wrote, “They are gonna get the Chase Claypool curse btw.” Here are some of the fan reactions:

Fans believe whichever team Claypool joins performs badly, referring to it as a ‘curse,’ and now they fear the Bills will have to endure that. They claimed the Bills wouldn’t make it to the playoffs now. Amidst the intense heat, the burden to redeem himself in the eyes of fans is entirely upon Claypool now.
