Hey, everyone! Welcome back to The Volley! Hope you’re all doing well. We’ve got some juicy updates in the world of rap, so let’s dive right in. If you’re new here, don’t forget to subscribe, and for our returning viewers, welcome back, gang!
First up, let’s talk about Saweetie. She’s dropping her new song, “My Best,” tonight at midnight, and I couldn’t be more excited. Saweetie has been putting out some really solid music lately, but it feels like she’s not getting the recognition she deserves. Her recent tracks, like “Rich Tivities” and “Nani,” have been fire. “Nani” is even on my daily playlist! Despite this, Saweetie seems to have been overlooked in the rap scene. Let’s give her the support she needs by checking out “My Best” at midnight and coming back here to chat about it.
Moving on to JT, the princess of rap has landed the number one spot on the Emerging Artist chart with her mixtape, “City Cinderella.” There’s been some debate about whether JT should be considered a new artist since she was part of the group City Girls, but I believe this is a new chapter in her solo career. Just like Beyoncé was recognized as a new solo artist after Destiny’s Child, JT deserves the same respect. Her rise from the City Girls to charting in the top 25 on Billboard with her first solo project is commendable. Shout out to JT for this achievement!
Cardi’s divorce announcement right before her album rollout has led to speculation that it’s all a publicity stunt. She’s filed for full custody of her children, including her unborn child, and fans are divided on whether this is genuine or a way to boost album sales. Cardi previously mentioned her second album would have “lemonade moments,” hinting at personal revelations, much like Beyoncé’s “Lemonade.” With the album expected in September, it’s hard to separate truth from strategy.
Interestingly, Nicki Minaj showed some subtle support for Cardi amidst all this. Nicki tweeted, “Stop beating up on yourself, handle it gently,” which many fans believe was directed at Cardi. The rap queen has faced her own relationship challenges and seems to be offering a virtual hug to Cardi during this tough time. Fans have reacted positively, seeing this as a sign of unity among female rappers.
That’s all for today, folks. Let me know your thoughts on JT’s number one spot, Saweetie’s new music, and Cardi B’s divorce and pregnancy announcements. Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or genuine? And what do you make of Nicki Minaj’s supportive tweet?
