Robert Griffin III says Stefon Diggs is the key for the Buffalo Bills going into the 2024 season.

Robert Griffin III claims Bills’ Super Bowl window is still ‘wide open’ as long as they have Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen on the same team

Being in the same division as the Kansas City Chiefs can be demoralizing. Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs have won three Super Bowls in the last five years and several AFC titles. However, Robert Griffin III believes that if the Buffalo Bills don’t split up Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, their window of finally getting the better of the Chiefs and winning a Super Bowl is still wide open.

Nick Wright may not agree, but during Saturday’s segment of his podcast, RG3 and the Ones, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III claimed Diggs is the peanut butter to Josh Allen’s jelly and with this duo, the Bills’ Super Bowl window will always be wide open.

It is clear that Stefon Diggs is the peanut butter to his [Josh Allen] jelly. He’s the brown sugar to his oat milk.

Robert Griffin III said.

Barring the Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce combination, Allen and Diggs are the dynamic duo that any other team thinks twice about underestimating. Including the 2023 postseason defeat, the Bills have constantly been the thorn in the Chiefs side, playing them in AFC championship games since 2020, in Diggs and Allen’s first year together.

I think unequivocally Stefon Diggs is the biggest [key] for the Buffalo Bills going into this season. As long as the Buffalo Bills have Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen on the same team, I believe their Super Bowl window is wide open.

Robert Griffin III added.

Robert Griffin III advises the Bills to resolve any tension between Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs

The part-time ESPN contributor pointed out key details that make Allen and Diggs a pair that have been balling in the last few years. In his first two years in Buffalo, Josh Allen never managed to cross 3100 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. However, when the Bills acquired Diggs from the Minnesota Vikings, his output saw instant growth.

Just in his first year, with Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs helped increase his completion percentage by 11%. He helped him throw 17 more touchdowns.

RG3 said.

That’s spot on, but what RG3 failed to mention was that Stefon Diggs also benefited from Allen’s service. Before arriving in the Meadowlands, the veteran wide receivers never managed to reach 1200 yards in five seasons in Minnesota. But in his first season in Buffalo, he registered a career-high 127 receptions for 1535 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns.

The only way we’re going to find out if Josh [Allen] doesn’t need Stefon Diggs is if he leaves. And I don’t want to see that happen.

RG3 added.

Yet it remains a possibility for the Buffalo Bills. But if Diggs leaves, then it would result in $49.5 million in dead capital. Moreover, the pre-June 1 trade would give them a dead-cap hit of $31 million per Spotrac.
