The New England Patriots, the team who had expressed their interest earlier about possibly trading their No. 3 pick, stunned everyone when they made their draft selection in the first round. Turns out they drafted a quarterback, that too from the top prospects– Drake Maye.

Though it’s a big move by the Patriots, not everyone seems happy about it. The franchise’s former head coach Bill Belichick asserted some strong words for this draft selection. The legendary head coach has been appearing as an analyst at a special hour with Pat McAfee, ‘The Pat McAfee Show Draft Spectacular’ dedicated especially to the 2024 NFL Draft.

Upon seeing his former team, who have stepped into their rejuvenating era after Belichick, drafting North Carolina star quarterback, Belichick gave a quite salty response.

He hasn't played very much. He really doesn't have a lot of experience. He's going to need some work in reading defenses, reading coverages. He's kind of quick to bail out of the pocket. He's going to need to hang in there a little bit longer and find those receivers.

Moreover, Belichick also dismissed Maye’s comparison of himself with Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen.

We'll see about that. There are some similarities in terms of size, but Josh Allen is a special player.

Bill Belichick added

Maye has been praised enormously for his prospect in the NFL and what can he become in the NFL, however, former HC Belichick doesn’t seem too hopeful about it. He stated that for the Carolina quarterback to succeed, he would need to work on becoming more consistent.

Fans react to Bill Belichick’s raised concern for Drake Maye

Regardless of how keen Belichick’s concerns about Maye have been, fans seemed to have focused on something entirely different. They highlighted the cold war between Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft, exclaiming the Super Bowl champion head coach would continue talking bad about the Patriots throughout the season.

One fan wrote, “And he didn’t see that with mac jones,” while another noted, “I’m crying man Bill is gonna shit on the Pats all year, this Cold War between him and Kraft will be comedy.” Here are some of the fan reactions:

Fans don’t seem to agree with Belichick for criticizing the Carolina star QB unnecessarily as what he said isn’t a big concern. Perhaps it is going to be an exciting season as Belichick is soon to join an analyst position with Peyton Manning.
