The Dallas Cowboys continue to carry the tag of America’s team, a prestigious title given to them during the team’s days of glory in the 1990s. It has been nearly 30 years since the team made it to the Super Bowl and hoisted the Lombardi Trophy. Since then, the Cowboys have continued to struggle and keep their fans optimistic about the team’s odds to return to the Super Bowl.
To Terry Bradshaw, a Hall of Fame quarterback and a four-time Super Bowl champion, the Dallas Cowboys‘ woes are not going away anytime soon. In a recent interview with Fort Worth Star-Telegram, he shared his views on the continued struggles of the team and blamed the media to an extent as well.
Terry Bradshaw believes the Dallas Cowboys need a shift in their mentality.
They lack the killer instinct, and that's your(the media) fault...they are placed on a pedestal because every network wants the Cowboys on national TV because they get the highest ratings every week...What they lack is that attitude. They lack that attitude. Or they don't answer. Why when you get into the playoffs you play like dog s***? Where is that fear?Terry Bradshaw said
Bradshaw’s views have been made vocal by other Hall of Famers who have continued to criticize the Cowboys for having a sense of entitlement despite repeatedly failing to win for the better part of two decades.
Terry Bradshaw believes the Dallas Cowboys have the necessary talent to win a Super Bowl
Despite the team’s disappointing performances, their ratings continue to be through the roof. Per Statista, America’s team was the most watched in the entire NFL throughout the 2023 regular season and drew in an average of 25 million viewers for their games. The Cowboys remain the most marketable team in the NFL and boast of a loyal fanbase that is willing to put everything on the line in order to defend its team.

Terry Bradshaw is not hating on the Cowboys, he believes that the current roster has the potential and skills required to win a Super Bowl but ultimately, it is their mentality that is holding them back.
When I look at the Cowboys, where is that drive? I'm just thinking about (the Steelers), and our team was never satisfied. When people said we weren't good any more, we went out and won two more Super Bowls...I am not saying the Cowboys do not have the potential to do that...Terry Bradshaw added
He compared the mentality of the players today to that of his Steelers. They took everything personally and when people doubted their potential, they made it their mission to prove the doubters wrong.
One of the concerning trends that can be seen with respect to the Dallas Cowboys is that despite the lack of success, the organization has continued to thrive. The team’s value keeps going up and so do the contracts of players. Today, the amount given in the form of guarantees at the time of signing a contract is higher than ever and maybe it plays a contributory role in negatively impacting the mindset of a player. Once the money comes in, it tends to bring along a sense of comfort and reassurance that irrespective of how a player performs, he is taken care of from a financial perspective.
The Dallas Cowboys had one of the best rosters in the NFL last season but the team made a grave error as they underestimated Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. Once the team gave up a big lead to their opponents, it was over. Mentally, the Cowboys gave up earlier than they should have and this ultimately led them to lose the Wild Card game.
