Gottlieb believes Brock Purdy is playing better only because the 49ers have all of their top offensive players.

Top analyst Doug Gottlieb claims at least 15 quarterbacks would’ve had better record than Brock Purdy with the current 49ers offense

As the NFL season approaches its final few weeks, the MVP conversation is becoming more apparent and sharp. As of week 15, the frontrunner is San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Brock Purdy with -190 odds. This means Purdy has a 65.5% chance of winning the award; behind him are Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott at +450.

Despite the stats, not everyone considers Purdy a worthy candidate for the NFL MVP race. Among those few, one name that’s quite prominent is that of the top analyst, Doug Gottlieb. He claims there are nearly 15 other quarterbacks who could have portrayed a better record than Purdy with the remarkable offense of the 49ers.

I could probably name 15 quarterbacks, at least, that would have as good or better a record as the 49ers have now if Brock Purdy was replaced by them at QB. It's the most ridiculous thing ever because what we do is and look we do this with LeBron as well, we're like 'Wow for 39 years old,' okay but you don't get to win an award based upon your age. It's not like a curve or an asterisk by it. And just because he was Mr. Irrelevant, doesn't mean he's the MVP. It makes it a great story.

He said in a recent episode of The Doug Gottlieb Show.

Gottlieb highlighted that when Tom Brady won the award, he didn’t win it because he was drafted in the sixth round. He won the MVP for logging 40 touchdown passes and displaying an undefeated regular season record.

This is not me saying Brock Purdy stinks, but we saw Brock Purdy when he didn't have Trent Williams tackle was awesome, when he didn't have Deebo Samuel and he had a turnover problem. 'Why he is playing so much better?' Well, they have all their players.

Brock Purdy believes his peer Christain McCaffrey should win the NFL MVP

Interestingly, quarterback Purdy isn’t the only player on the 49ers who has a likely chance to win the NFL MVP award this season. Another crucial player is running back Christian McCaffrey, with +1200 odds, according to DraftKings.

Though the MVP award mostly goes to a quarterback, McCaffrey has a fair chance of winning it. And so does quarterback Purdy believe. After leading his team to its ninth consecutive victory, McCaffrey’s stellar performance gained a lot of attention.

When Purdy was asked about it in the post-game press conference, he endorsed the running back.

I think Christian should be MVP. I really do believe that. He does everything for us … and so in my eyes that's an MVP.

He said

McCaffrey completed the game by posting 18 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Along with five catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
