Brock Purdy will be offered a long-term extension by the 49ers in the offseason.

Veteran analyst believes San Francisco 49ers do not have ‘any reason whatsoever’ to not pay Brock Purdy $50 million per year

The San Francisco 49ers had a disappointing end to what was a remarkable regular season run. The team, led by quarterback Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey tore through the best defenses in the NFL on a weekly basis. Despite not accomplishing their goal of becoming Super Bowl Champions, the team did gain reassurance about one thing. They no longer need to worry about stability at the quarterback position.

Brock Purdy, the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft proved himself this season. The quarterback threw for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns in his first season as the primary option at the QB position. Despite disagreements between fans and critics, the one point the two sides can agree upon is that the QB deserves to be paid on the same footing as a franchise QB. Journalist Peter King believes Purdy deserves to be paid and that the money will in no way negatively impact his game.

Peter King shared his opinion on the San Francisco 49ers’ QB situation. Speaking on 95.7 THE GAME, he said:

Kyle Shanahan is the guy who wanted to trade three ones to move up to take Trey Lance, a guy who... has thrown fewer passes in the last seven years, than Patrick Mahomes threw this year. And so he chose to do that.

Peter King said

With that being said, Shanahan should be thanking his stars as he was able to find a better replacement almost instantly at QB who may have saved his job.

Brock Purdy deserves to be one of the top-paid quarterbacks in the NFL

Purdy has performed at an MVP level this year and he has managed to do that on the salary of a veteran. He gets paid under a million dollars as per his rookie contract. King is of the opinion that Purdy will remain the same person even after securing a long-term extension.

He added:

What I'm saying is, Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch are not going to be thinking, 'last pick in the draft, can't pay him $50 million.' Let me ask you this, is there any reason whatsoever why you think that money might change Brock Purdy? I sure don't think so.

Peter King added

Money will not change Purdy, as he comes from a humble background and has showcased that he has values and traits that teams look for in their franchise quarterbacks. He might not have a superiority complex or the ego that accomplished QBs have, he just wants to play football and win games for his team. What more could a franchise ask for from its player? Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch know this about him, which is why they will not show any reluctance in paying him his worth.
