Andy Reid defends Harrison Butker. The Kansas City Chiefs head coach after the third day of OTAs spoke with the media, where one keen reporter asked his opinion on the placekicker’s recent controversial statements on women and religion.

On Wednesday, Coach Reid spoke with the media, updating them on the players’ health and fitness and plans for the coming days. In the meantime, one of the reporters threw in Butker’s name, trying to get a reaction. He got one, as the veteran gave a stern reply.

He revealed talking with Butker but hasn’t discussed his latest speech at the commencement of the Benedictine college earlier this month. Even if they haven’t caught up recently, coach Reid disclosed that each individual, irrespective of their background, has the right to speak their minds.

We all respect each other's opinions. And not necessarily do we go by those, but we respect everybody to have a voice. That's a great thing about America.

Andy Reid said

Despite keeping his composure, the next question ticked him off. He did not appreciate the reporter’s tone questioning whether the women working for the Chiefs took umbrage to Harrison Butker’s comments. Reid shut him down mid-sentence.

I don't think he was speaking ill [to women]. He has his opinions, and we all respect that. I let you guys in this room, and you have a lot of opinions that I don't like.

Reid wasn’t the only one who supported the 28-year-old. Previously, Chiefs heiress Gracie Hunt, teammate Chris Jones, Missouri Attorney General, Whoopi Goldberg, and Bill Maher spoke in favor of Butker.

Patrick Mahomes finally spoke on Harrison Butker

Coach Reid aside, there was one person in particular whom the media desperately wanted to hear from on the matter. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes uncharacteristically kept his mouth shut for a long time through Butker’s social media trial.

The three-time Super Bowl winner finally opened up.

There's certain things that he said that I don't necessarily agree with. But I understand the person that he is, and he's trying to do whatever he can to try to lead people in the right direction.

Patrick Mahomes said

Previously, an old edited video of Mahomes talking about Butker was circling the internet that caught the attention of many. It was a clip from an episode of ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show after the Chiefs won their latest Super Bowl in February.

Mahomes can be heard saying that he hardly ever speaks to Butker. This was an implication that the 6-time Pro bowler was aware of his teammates’ apparent sexist views on gender.
