Smith has been loving the Cowboys fans meltdown on and off the social media.
Whether Stephen A. Smith trolls the Dallas Cowboys on purpose is irrelevant. From a pure entertainment point of view, his take on the ‘Americas Team’ is the gold standard.
Even though Smith is part of the ESPN family, he rarely makes physical appearances on other shows besides ‘First Take.’ But yesterday was different; the veteran sports analyst walked in on the sets of ‘Get Up’ interrupting Dan Orlovsky‘s monologue about the Bills-Chiefs playoff game from Sunday night.
Those who tuned in to watch the Mike Greenberg-hosted show perhaps braced for what sort of bomb Smith would drop. Before all that, Smith hugged both Greenberg and fellow contributor Ryan Clark, paid his respects to former NFL coach Rex Ryan, and told Orlovsky to hold his analysis of the Bills game while doing a special handshake.
Then he spilled the beans. In classic Smith fashion, he took a dig at the events following the Cowboys’ loss in the wild card.
I never thought I would see this day! Even with all the NFL action going on in football, you know what the Cowboys have done? Do you see Cowboys fans turning against Cowboys fans? It's BEAUTIFUL! They are turning against each other.Smith announced
Which Cowboys incident was Smith taking a shot at?
This is only a theory, but going by the recent blame game on social media, in Smith’s words, ‘Cowboys fans’ could mean any of CeeDee Lamb’s mother or Micah Parsons‘ brother being unhappy with quarterback Dak Prescott. Again, this is only just a theory; knowing Smith, he could be pointing his finger at a whole host of other things.

But why are the Cowboys fans angry? Is it because Smith’s ‘prophecy‘ about the Cowboys slipping up in the postseason came true? That does play a hefty part in the grand scheme of things, but the Cowboy nation is more pissed at owner Jerry Jones keeping Mike McCarthy as head coach and Prescott capitulating once again. In the age of social media, everyone has a voice. Thus the initiation of the blame game, which handed Smith a late Christmas present, or is it early because this is a new year? Nevertheless, the 56-year-old is enjoying the countrywide Dallas fans’ meltdown.
I just want America to know it's gotten to the point where Cowboys fans have turned on each other. I'm going to take that as a badge of honor.Smith’s obsession with the Cowboys can sometimes come off as obnoxious to a few, but it does benefit him and the ESPN network itself. His take on Jerry’s squad is one of the most devoured pieces of content on not just social media, but also on television.
The episode of First Take a Day after Cowboys Wild Card exit was the most watched event on the network. An estimated 1.5 million people tuned in to watch Smith rant about the ‘Americas Team.’
It’s hard to keep a journalist from talking when the subject itself keeps on providing the chance to speak. For Smith to truly see the Cowboys in a bright light, they need to win the Super Bowl. But if it were easier, then they wouldn’t have been waiting for 30 years to win another one.
