Taylor Swift steals the show at BFF Selena Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco with emotional speech

Taylor Swift played more than the role of best friend at Selena Gomez’s wedding.

The pop superstar, 35, was front and center at Gomez and Benny Blanco’s California nuptials over the weekend, where she gave a heartfelt speech during the couple’s reception, a source told People.

Ed Sheeran, a longtime friend of the groom, also delivered words of support for the newlyweds, adding to the star-studded lineup of well-wishers.

Swift’s presence was a highlight of the celebration, which guests described as ‘so much fun’ and filled with ‘so much love.’

‘At the reception, everyone was letting loose and celebrating them well into the night,’ an insider revealed. ‘They were glowing all night, and both Selena and Benny couldn’t stop smiling.’

Alongside Swift and Sheeran, Gomez’s mom Mandy Teefey and stepfather Brian Teefey gave heartfelt tributes, while Blanco’s parents, Sandra and Andrew Levin, also shared their blessings for the couple.

The night before, Steve Martin and Martin Short, gave a joint speech at the rehearsal dinner.

‘The ceremony moved guests to tears. They wrote their own vows, which were both funny and sentimental,’ an insider told People.

At the reception, nine-time Grammy winner Mark Ronson DJed for some of  Hollywood’s biggest names in attendance from Paris Hilton and SZA to Camila Cabello and Cara Delevingne.

On Sunday, Gomez’s mother revealed one of the most emotional moments of the night came as her daughter walked down the aisle.

‘It was a fairytale come true and it was beyond heartwarming watching my father [David Michael Cornett] walk her down the aisle!!! XO,’ Teefey, 49, wrote on Instagram.

Teefey went on to call the newlyweds ‘the most kick a** couple I know,’ adding that the evening ‘couldn’t have been more beautiful and perfect.’

She closed her post with a glowing message for both her daughter and new son-in-law: ‘Absolutely flawless! All my love to my beautiful daughter @selenagomez and to the greatest son in law @itsbennyblanco.’

But just after 11.30pm, the singer’s three car convoy was seen speeding away – headed for the nearby Santa Barbara airport where she jumped on a private Gulfstream G550 plane.

Tracking data shows the jet is headed towards the Missouri city – with Swift set to arrive with hours to go before the big game.

The Cruel Summer hitmaker jetted into Santa Barbara on Friday afternoon and was photographed getting off her plane shielded by umbrellas.

She spent Friday night at the ritzy Rosewood Miramar which starts at $1,024-a-night and boasts spectacular views of Miramar Beach and the Pacific Ocean.

Along with attending the Saturday evening wedding – at which she had promised to be a flower girl – Swift’s convoy was also seen sweeping into the tony Hope Ranch neighborhood on Friday night for Gomez’s rehearsal dinner.

In August, Gomez gushed about how the genesis of her friendship with Swift came through their famous ex-boyfriends when they were teenagers over a decade ago.

On the podcast, the former Disney star recalled when she dated Nick Jonas, 32, during the same time Swift was dating Nick’s older brother Joe Jonas, 35.

‘It was cute,’ she began. ‘We were young. We all know and love each other now and it’s so cute.

‘We don’t know what we were doing. She and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other because it was really sweet.’

Gomez continued: ‘I was about 15 she was about 18 and that’s when it was the crazy curly Taylor and she had all these bracelets that went all the way up,’ she recalled.

‘I believe Love Story was the first song she had ever played me and it wasn’t released yet,’ she said about Swift’s 2008 country pop hit Love Story, which went on to receive eight awards from 13 nominations.

‘Yeah, I was in a hotel room and I remember it vividly, it was just one of those songs I instantly heard and thought this is one of the most beautiful songs ever,’ Gomez gushed about the singer-songwriter.

She said that after their respective breakups with the two members of the Jonas Brothers they were dating, they became close friends.

‘So, at that age we became best friends, bonded over the breakup,’ the Only Murders in the Building star continued.

‘As girls do, and then we, I don’t know and then we just stuck around for all the ups and downs that came after and here we are now 16 years later’.

 ‘Wow, I can’t believe you heard Love Story before it was released,’ the podcast host Jake Shane chimed in, to which Gomez responded, ‘I know it was so sweet.

‘She was like, “OK, I just want to play you this song, but just like, you know, I don’t know. It’s going to be the first single, I think, I think.”‘

Gomez said she was in awe ‘just hearing her say those little thoughts and just listening to it.’

She added about her longtime friend: ‘Yeah, she is a chameleon. She’s incredible.’

Meanwhile, Blanco worked on Sheeran’s Divide album, which sold over 40 million copies, and, together, the duo created ‘five number ones that were spawned for other artists,’ including Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself, Anne-Marie’s 2002, and Halsey’s Eastside.

While appearing on Daniel Wall’s Behind The Wall podcast in March, Blanco said he originally planned to join Sheeran on tour for a week but ended up staying for two years.

‘It was Ed’s biggest album. It sold about 40 million copies. It was one of the biggest albums ever. And we just made it on a tour bus, in the back of studios, in his house… We never worked in a real studio,’ he said.

Many of their hits emerged unexpectedly, including Love Yourself, which was written in the middle of the night after a party.

‘We were wasted, eating pizza, got back on the bus and decided to make a song just to stay up because we were going to be woken up at border patrol in two hours. And then it becomes a big song,’ Blanco recalled.

Blanco also praised Sheeran’s relentless work ethic. ‘We’d be backstage working on a song. They’d say, “Ed, 10 minutes.” And he’s like, “Okay,” still working. “Three minutes.” He keeps going. “Two minutes,” they put the mic on his head. “One minute,” and he’s like, “Keep working on the song, I’ll be right back.”

‘Then he goes, performs for two hours, comes back, and says, “Okay, I was thinking about the pre-chorus while I was on stage.” I was like, “How can you think about the pre-chorus while singing to 80,000 people?” I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast. And somehow, he does it.’
