With its connections to James Gunn’s DC Universe, Peacemaker Season 2 is looking to further bridge itself to this new world as it bring a character from the DCU’s first animated series to live-action.

In a post on Instagram, Gunn announced that Frank Grillo will be reprising his role as Rick Flag Sr., who is set to make his debut in Creature Commandos. In addition, he also hints at what role Flag Sr. could be playing in the upcoming season.

While Peacemaker‘s second season is connected to the DCU, some have wondered if there could also be narrative connections to the events of Suicide Squad and its sequel this season.

In 2021’s The Suicide Squad, John Cena’s Christopher Smith killed Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag Jr. over leaking information about Starro’s arrival.

Given the ending of that film, it’s very likely that Rick Sr. would want to get revenge against Smith for his son’s murder in the upcoming season. Although, Gunn previously pointed out on Threads that the story of this upcoming season will follow the events of Superman.

How this eventual confrontation will play out in the series is up in the air due to the fact that this season is canonized in the newest live-action iteration of the DC Universe and not in the DCEU.
