The Cowboys are massively depending on the upcoming NFL draft.
“We’d like to see more leaves fall!” Jerry Jones wants to see more of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb before giving them a big multi-year contract

After everything that happened these past few months: how the Dallas Cowboys got eliminated from the playoffs following a poor loss in a home game to the Green Bay Packers; the franchise silence in free agency and the contract of all three-star players hung in the air with no long term extension talks, fans are heavily disappointed in the Cowboys.

The epicenter of the intense criticism by the fans has been Jerry Jones, given he is responsible for the decision-making within the franchise. Fans aren’t just angry that Jones missed on solid players in the free agency who were even interested in the team, but most of all, for the way the Cowboys have been treating their three biggest stars– Dak PrescottCeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons.

Both Prescott and Lamb’s contract is up, yet the franchise hasn’t had any discussion on a long-term extension. When Jones was asked about it at the recent press conference ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, the Cowboys owner seemed to have quite strong words for his star players.

We’d like to see more leaves fall. We’d like to see more action. It’s called option quarterback. I’ve spent my life [playing] option quarterback. I want to see some more cards played.

Moving into the draft, the Cowboys are heavily depending on it with a lot of debates on whether or not they should draft a quarterback. It would somehow make up for their absolute inactivity in the free agency.

Dak Prescott’s deserved extension hangs in the balance

Many believed Prescott had a bad game not season, considering the fact he led the Cowboys to the playoffs at 12-5 while accomplishing the NFC East title. Even though the playoffs didn’t happen the way fans hoped, he didn’t entirely blame the star quarterback for it.

He was still considered deserving of a huge extension that would put him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. But the Cowboys totally neglected it and rather than offering an extension, he chose to go with his fifth-year option.

And it appears so, the quarterback is preparing himself to be elsewhere after the 2024 season if the Cowboys doesn’t offer him a satisfactory deal. However, for now, his focus is Dallas and make up for the poor season of 2023.
