“Best years are ahead of him,” Troy Aikman gives his vote of confidence to Dak Prescott ahead of the start of the new season

The contract of the Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott‘s contract is one of the major discussion points in this offseason. The quarterback is rumored to bag an annual salary of $59.4 million.

Amid the so-called contract talks and associated criticism, Troy Aikman, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, stood by the present one. Aikman is the last quarterback to win the Super Bowl for the Cowboys. The team peaked at his time as they won three Super Bowls in the span of four years. He gave the Cowboys a new identity.

Speaking at a charity event on Monday, the former quarterback claimed that the best years are yet to come for Dak Prescott. Aikman also threw his support behind the possible contract extension for Prescott.

They've got to do this deal, don't they? They've got to free up some money, so he'll be here a little while longer, and he should be. He's proven he can play at a high level. I know they've come up short as a team the last few years, but he's been a great player in this league and his best years are ahead of him.

The deal with Dak Prescott has become a cause of concern for the Cowboys fans. The team has to re-sign the wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb. With a limited cap left, the team will find it difficult to provide a $59.5 million deal to the Cowboys quarterback.

Jerry Jones even indicated the possible situation. He claimed that even if the Cowboys fail to give an extension to the quarterback, the team will go all in one.

Aikman backs Dak Prescott amid a difficult time

Troy Aikman thinks highly of Dak Prescott despite the latter failing in multiple playoff appearances. Aikman believes that the failure against Green Bay in the latest playoff game was not Prescott’s fault. It was the team that was responsible.

I benefited from the success of the teams I was on in January, so I understand there's two sides to that coin--But until you do it, there's always the question of whether or not you can.

Aikman has always backed Prescott through thick and thin over the years. Right after the defeat against the Packers, he backed the quarterback. If there’s any player, former or present, who knows best about representing America’s team, it is Aikman.
