Reporting live from Iris Club in Atlanta for Comedy Hype News, I’m John Aba. Jillian Michaels has definitely gotten herself in some controversy after downplaying slavery in America as a guest on CNN’s News Night with with Abby Phillip. During the debate, Michaels would argue that because slavery has been persistent throughout world history, not just American history, you could not tie imperialism, racism, and slavery to just white people.

Can we address some of those things that are in there? Cuz have you looked at some of the things that are being slavery? Yeah, slavery was a bad thing that we should talk about. Okay. And you cannot tie imperialism and racism and slavery to just one race. When you anti slavery in America was less than 2% of white Americans own slavery slavery thousands of years old people were slave owners in the first race.

I’m surprised that you’re trying to litigate um who was the beneficiary of slavery oppressing. every single thing is like, “Oh, no, no, no. This is all because white people bad.” And that’s just not the truth. You brought up the question of whether or not slavery in the United States is about race. The answer is yes.

 In the United States, don’t. Now, of course, these comments would infuriate those online as several figures would roast Michaels for her opinion, including DL Hugley. Hugley would take to social media re-sharing a portion of Michael’s debate on CNN while adding a message of his own at the end. Now for his caption, Hugley would go on to reiterate his comments saying, “America is the only nation that fights to hold onto its sins of the past.

 You’d be hardressed to find statues, monuments, andor military institutions named after Nazi generals or head of state in Germany. Miss me with the BS. Well, I can only hope Julian Michaels is a better trainer than she is an explainer. She was talking about the fact that there were good people on both sides.

 There were, you know, people who were forced labor and people who fought against it, but you weren’t one of them. She talked about marching into the civil civil rights. You didn’t do that. She talked about um fighting a war. You didn’t do that. Now, because of Michael’s attempt to downplay slavery in America, Hugley wasn’t the only person who fired back online.

 Many would go off on social media and even take aim at the fact that Michaels has an adopted Haitian child and are now vilifying the former reality star for having far-right conservative viewpoints while raising a black child. One user would ask, “Who the heck gave you a Haitian child? You obviously hid how you really felt.

 Did you want the child to love or for other purposes? Another social media user would agree and chime in. Adopted a black child just for moments like this so she can say, “I’m not racist. I have a black child.” While wanting to beg for us to erase all of our black history so folks like her can continue to play in our face.

 Another online user would say, “Wait until someone tell her about the Jim Crow era. Can’t wait to hear her justify it.” And one more would drive that point home by saying what percentage participated in Jim Crow. Now Rachel TR who is known from the UPN sitcom Half and Half as well as Halfbaked would chime in in the conversation.

 She would go on to write a response to Jillian on X. As a mixed black person, I really hate that you have a black child. One more user would write, “One out of every four white men own slaves if they lived in the South. the others who didn’t still benefited from this. Michaels would go on to respond to the last user on X. To that comment, she would go on to write, “So, are you in the all white people are bad camp or can we acknowledge that slavery and oppression have been carried out by every race against every race throughout history? Yes, in America there were

white slaveholders who committed horrific crimes against black people. But the reason your statistics come only from the South is because most other states outlaw slavery outright, recognizing it as morally reprehensible, and we can’t ignore the roughly 350,000 white men who died in the Civil War to help end it. Slavery was aborant.

 But holding every white person, past or present, collectively, guilty, isn’t accurate, and it certainly isn’t productive. Now, separately, Michaels would issue out another message on the social media site, writing, “I’m denigrating all of humanity by pointing out that 98% of American white people in 1860 didn’t perpetrate slavery.

” And in fact, many white Americans died to end it. DL would find himself going on to respond to this by reposting a message that read, “Jillian Michaels, you are as tonedeaf as a brick in a symphony orchestra. Trying to justify your maginfested worldview. Historically cherry-picking, your desperate attempt to distance your precious 2% from the sins of slavery history is about as effective as a screen door on a submarine.

 Meanwhile, you’re living a life that’s the ultimate troll on the narrowminded ideology. a white lesbian in a same-sex marriage with a Haitian daughter, all while flaunting your heart and family as if it’s a personal vendetta against the very people you’re trying to appease. It’s like watching a clown juggle faming stereotypes. Maybe next time you should stick to what you know best, making people sweat.

 Because when it comes to critical thinking and social awareness, you’re as about as successful as a chocolate teapot. Interestingly enough, Hugh’s response would end with him reposting another video disproving Michaels. So, anyone surfing social media this week has surely seen this clip of Jillian Michaels saying this about slavery.

Less than 2% of white Americans own slaves. And while she didn’t name a specific year in her claim on CNN, she did tweet this out later, saying, “I’m denigrating all of humanity by pointing out that 98% of American white people in 1860 didn’t perpetrate slavery.” But let’s take a look at this claim because yes, as the data shows, in 1860 there were 393,975 slave owners in the United States out of a total population of 31,183,582 or just 1.

26% of the population. But let’s take a closer look at that because by taking a look at this map from 1860 of the percent of households that own slaves at the time, we can see that slavery was no longer practiced in the north and was only practiced down here in the south. And so, yeah, if we eliminate those 18 free states and only concentrate on the remaining 15 slave states, you can see we get that same amount of slave owners that now have a population of just 12 million, that’s almost 19 million off of the original number, which gets us to

3.22% of the population owning slaves. But here’s another problem. If we just look at the US slave states in 1860, we can see that in the slave column here, we have almost 4 million slaves. And because they can’t own themselves, we got to minus them out, too. And so, if we remove them, we get 8.2 million with the same amount of slave owners.

 And now that number jumps up to 4.75% of the free population of these 15 states. So, what do you guys think about the response that DL would give Jillian Michaels in her attempt to downplay slavery in America?
