Emotional moment Megyn Kelly breaks down in tears during live stream after finding out her friend Charlie Kirk had died
American journalist Megyn Kelly broke down in tears on her live show when she discovered that Charlie Kirk, the Conservative influencer, had passed away after being shot
This is the emotional moment American journalist Megyn Kelly discovers while livestreaming that her friend Charlie Kirk, the Conservative influencer, had passed away after being shot at a rally in Utah.
Kirk, 31, was shot at 12.20 pm during an event at Utah Valley University by a gunman who was caught on camera dashing across a rooftop in the moments after he opened fire.
Kelly broke down in tears during a live broadcast from her political commentary show called The Megyn Kelly Show on YouTube, which has 3.8 million subscribers.
‘Oh good God, he’s dead,’ the grief-stricken commentator said, her voice shaking with emotion. ‘It’s official, it’s from the COO of Turning Point.’
She then read out the confirmation of his death posted on X by Turning Point USA -the Conservative youth organisation Kirk co-founded in 2012 when he was 18.
‘I am so sorry to be bringing you this news,’ a devastated Kelly said between tears.
Dabbing her eyes, she continued: ‘I am sorry for what it means for our country, for Charlie – poor dear Charlie and his family. I am sorry for what it’s going to mean for the debates that we have yet to have – that he would have won, he would have put everyone to shame on, as he had been.
‘And I’m angry, really f***ing angry about how this happened, why this happened, and why we don’t have a person in custody.’

Two people who were arrested in the wake of Kirk’s death have since been released, with Utah authorities saying they have ‘no current ties’ to the fatal incident.
The manhunt for the suspect is ongoing. The incident was a ‘targeted attack’, according to Utah’s Department of Public Safety, with the suspect believed to have fired the fatal shot from the roof of a building to the courtyard where Kirk was addressing a crowd of around 3,000 people.
Videos posted to social media show Kirk, a close ally of the U.S. president, seen speaking into a handheld microphone while sitting under a white tent, falling limp off his chair as he was struck in the neck.
He was rushed to a hospital by his private security team and was later declared dead.
He was killed while answering audience questions for his ‘American Comeback Tour’. Officials said the fatal shot was fired from the top of the Losee Centre, about 200 feet away from where Kirk was speaking.
Chaos took over the scene following the shooting as thousands of people rushed to flee the campus.
In a video post, U.S. President Donald Trump said he’s ‘filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk’.
‘This is a dark moment for America. My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity, and to other political violence, including the organisations that fund it and support it,’ he said.

The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents of political violence in America.
In the run-up to the election, Trump faced two assassination attempts in July and September 2024.
In December, Brian Thompson, a healthcare CEO, was gunned down in New York. In April, the home of Democrat Josh Shapiro, the 48th governor of Pennsylvania, was burned in an arson attack. In June, a gunman dressed as a police officer killed a Democratic state lawmaker, Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark – and injured another state lawmaker and his wife.
Sophie Anderson, 45, who was standing 100 feet from the stage when the shooting of Kirk happened, told the Daily Mail that she almost got trampled as she ran off into the food court where she hit in a closet.
’The second it happened, I knew it was a gunshot,’ said Anderson, who was joined at the event by her boss Phil Lyman, a former Utah state representative who was handing out hats on stage with Kirk just five minutes earlier.
’He was shot in the neck and just fell over and he was just a fountain of blood,’ she said. ‘They carried him off. All these kids are just falling apart and bawling.’

The investigation into locating the killer is ongoing, and police said late on Wednesday that officers were seeking clues at ‘multiple active crime scenes’.
