Quiz show slip-ups are all too common, often catching even the sharpest contestants off-guard.

One contestant crumbled under the intense pressure of Jeopardy! and has now broken their silence. The episode featured Thomas Wilson, a teacher from Taylors, South Carolina; Dondi DeMarco, an operations executive from New York City; and Andrew Hayes, a law student from Tupelo, Mississippi.

Andrew entered as a four-day champion, with an impressive $98,603 in winnings. He stumbled early, losing $1,000 on a Daily Double while Thomas made a strong move in Double Jeopardy by doubling his score on a government jobs clue.

Viewers have shared their support for Thomas despite him losing out

Dondi took the lead with a $2,000 entering Final Jeopardy with $18,400 to Andrew’s $11,600.

The final clue, about the ancient nickname “The Eternal City” for Rome, proved tricky; only Andrew answered correctly. His strategic move of $7,601 brought him to $19,201, securing his fifth consecutive win and a total of $117,804, with Thomas finishing in last place.

The student has since opened up about his loss online. Taking to Reddit, he responded to a thread about his game to which he said: “This was an absolutely brutal set of questions for me. It’s rare that I have two categories in a round I have to almost completely punt on, and tonight it happened in both rounds.

“Still could have won if I played a perfect game but missing the Guiteau question hurt a lot, and then my mind was completely scrambled on the final. So it goes…”

People were quick to show their support for his game, with one person writing: “I agree with you about that board being kind of brutal. Even the Amazon echo version just about made me howl an agony this morning.”

Another person joked: “Same here. Well below my average score, 1/4 on bonuses, and a lot of staring at the screen.” A third person chimed in: “Great job, Andrew, Dondi, and Thomas!”
