Luke Macfarlane dishes on the ‘truth’ about Jeopardy! as he predicts he’d do ‘relatively well’

Hollywood star Luke Macfarlane dished on how well he thinks he’d perform on Jeopardy! compared to his character Charlie on the Apple TV+ hit series Platonic Greeves

Luke Macfarlane revealed how well he thinks he’d perform on Jeopardy! while discussing his latest appearance on his hit comedy Platonic.

Macfarlane’s character, Charlie, recently had a quite the tough run on the game show during the Wednesday, Aug. 25, episode. But in real life, the Apple TV+ actor says he once had a the opportunity to test his skills on the fan-favorite game show for real.

“Here’s the truth, I was asked to do Celebrity Jeopardy! I agreed to do it but then at the last minute my schedule changed and I couldn’t do it. I think I would do relatively well on Celebrity Jeopardy!” Macfarlane opened up about while promoting the show. “But Celebrity Jeopardy! is not real Jeopardy!”

The actor explained that getting to recreate the quiz show on Platonic was especially fun given his longtime interest in it.

“I’m a big fan of Jeopardy! [So filming this] — I don’t even think our incredible writers knew that about me. But I knew exactly how the show worked. In fact, I think I even gave them a couple of suggestions,” he told Us Weekly.

“I was like, ‘I think it would actually make more sense if we kind of did it just the way the show works.’ But I love the show.”

Macfarlane admitted that meeting longtime Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings was another highlight.

He continued, “I was a huge fan of [host] Ken Jennings. Most of my preparation was, ‘Don’t be a complete nerd in front of Ken Jennings.’ What a cool dude. He was just bright, funny and awesome.”

Platonic, which debuted in May 2023, centers on former childhood friends Sylvia (Rose Byrne) and Will (Seth Rogen) who reconnect as adults.

Macfarlane plays Sylvia’s husband Charlie, who often finds himself caught in the middle of their renewed friendship.

Although viewers didn’t see Charlie triumph on Jeopardy! during the recent episode, they will watch him face new challenges. According to Macfarlane, Charlie’s story will continue to unfold as he navigates a midlife crisis.

Beyond discussing the show, the actor also opened up about former costars he would like to bring into the Platonic world.

“I can say this now. I actually really tried to get Matthew Rhys to do a part in Bros. Ultimately he wasn’t able to do it and ultimately the scene was cut anyway — so it was the wrong thing to do. But I would love to do that [on Platonic],” he revealed.

“I’ve also said I would love to see Sally Field — who’s one of the funniest people ever — show up in the Platonic universe somehow.”
