The Huge Amount Travis Kelce Spent on Taylor Swift’s Engagement Ring Has Finally Been Revealed

Staggering amount Travis Kelce spent on Taylor Swift’s engagement ring

Travis Kelce reportedly designed the engagement ring he gave Taylor Swift himself – but it also left a hefty hole in his bank balance.

American sport superstar Travis Kelce likely paid an eye-watering seven-figure amount on fiance Taylor Swift’s engagement sparkler.

The high-profile couple announced their engagement today with a joint Instagram post, sharing five photos documenting their exciting news – and the ring was so big it earned its own close-up photo.

Several prominent jewellers in the US have priced the ring at around $US1 million ($AU1.54 million), an estimate supported by local jewellers here in Australia.

Yes, it was expensive.
Yes, it was expensive.
Talitha Cummins, founder of The Cut Jewellery, explained that Swift’s ring is approximately 10ct Mine Cut diamond, set in yellow gold with an engraved band.

“Old mine cuts are gaining popularity – we get a lot of inquiries for these. They were traditionally cut by hand and were quite misshapen as a result,” Cummins explained.

“They have large facets and sparkle differently to a typical brilliant cut. Believe it or not, you can also get them lab-grown these days.”

Cummins’ verdict on the ring, reportedly designed by Kelce himself? “I think it’s a beautiful ring. It’s bold and elegant with an intricate, detailed band – it’s perfectly suited to her.”

Brisbane-based jewellery designer Nick Ireland told news.com.au that while many factors affect the price of a ring like this, “however, if it’s a high colour / clarity stone, then yes, it could easily have a $US1 million price tag.”

“Old mine cut diamonds date back to the 1700s through to the late 1800s. Each was crafted entirely by hand, which meant they were rarely symmetrical. Cutters prioritised preserving the carat weight over perfecting brilliance. The result is that every stone has its own personality and charm,” he said.

He also said the longer oval shape of the ring was very on-trend.

“We’re seeing huge demand for elongated shapes – ovals, radiants, cushions and emeralds – as they enhance finger coverage and create a refined, elegant look, similar to Taylor’s.

“Another strong trend is couples rejecting off-the-shelf designs in favour of something made just for them. Engagement rings are incredibly personal symbols, and many want theirs to reflect that uniqueness,” he said.

Rare Carat CEO Ajay Anand told Page Six today that the ring, which he appraised at being worth approximately $US1m depending on colour and clarity, looks “nothing less than what you’d expect for Taylor Swift”.

The happy couple.
The happy couple.
Laura Taylor, engagement ring specialist at Lorel Diamonds, told Page Six that the cut “[gives] the ring a dreamy, romantic feel that suits Taylor’s signature style perfectly”.

“This style feels exactly right for Taylor. It stands out from the typical celebrity engagement rings we’ve seen in recent years. The old mine cut, the engraved band, and the warm tone of the gold create something that feels a lot more personal and timeless, worlds away from the minimalist platinum styles worn by many in Hollywood,” she said.

So, the experts agree: You did good, Travis (even if it did cost you a bomb).

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” was the caption to the joint post shared to Swift’s and Kelce’s Instagram accounts today announcing their engagement.

For the photos, Swift donned a blue Polo Ralph Lauren dress while Kelce wore navy cableknit sweater, also by Polo Ralph Lauren.

Their engagement post was liked by more than 18 million people in the four hours since being posted.

The personal milestone comes as Swift readies the release of her upcoming twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, out on October 3.

The singer took the unusual step of announcing the album’s release on Kelce’s podcast earlier this month.
